George F. Travers Jackson (1880-1964) grew up in Cape Town and was an enthusiastic mountain climber from an early age. He was founder member of the Mountain Club of South Africa and climbed both in South African and Europe. In 1940 he presented about 100 books and journals to the Library, the majority being nineteenth-century accounts of mountaineering expeditions and explorations. These titles have also been integrated into the general bookstock.
