«/i»«/sup»dau. of James ("Jim Blazes") Pattle and Adeline de l'Etang. She became leader of the European social set, known for her brilliant conversation and wit. At the age of 48 she took up photography, becoming famous for her individual style, often with a Pre-Raphaelite influence. In the 1860s she adopted Cyllena (b. 1851), Sheridan and Emily Melita Wilson, children of missionary Sheridan Arthur Wilson and Cyllena Butters. She also adopted Mary Ryan, later Lady Cotton
